A New Semester of Ministry
After being on a short pause due to Thanksgiving/Christmas break and a short return to online learning, the campus of the University of Denver will open up this coming Tuesday, the 18th! As I mentioned in the previous update, we kicked off our ministry rhythms on Thursday the 13th with the start of our weekly meetings and the start of a weekly prayer walk with Colson, one of the student leaders.
Making good use of our newly secured room- thanks to Hope Denver, a church nearby DU, the Thursday weekly meetings began with a short introduction to the talks we will be giving, which you can find the schedule here. Jory, the team lead, did a great job at explaining the meaning and purpose of our weekly meetings which led the students to become quite excited for the upcoming semester!
We want use our weekly meeting time to present the many different values and world-views that are prevalent on DU’s campus and the greater Denver area, while critiquing them and showing where they fall short to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We also want this to be a place where both Christian and Non-Christian students can come to get to know one another, a place for Christians to sharpen their apologetic skills, and an opportunity for Non-Christians to hear the Gospel.
Below is a preview of the first four weeks:
Examining Polytheistic Religions - Jory Bayne, Team lead of Denver Metro Cru
A Guide to Monotheistic Religions - Ike Shepardson, PhD in Apologetics from Denver Seminary
What is the Trinity? - Joseph Wolyniak, PhD in Theology from Oxford
The New Atheist Movement - Me, no accreditation, but a passion to share that Christ is King!
These weekly talks will prepare the Christian students well for what they will encounter on campus, but it does no good to just listen, we have to get out and practice. Because of this, I am starting consistent time each week where myself and some of the guys will be doing evangelism on DU’s campus.
I am also starting a Men’s Bible study for the guys on campus. We will be going through the book of 1 Thessalonians and using it as a discipleship manual, focusing on how we can use it to build up the new believers come to faith or that we meet, but also how we can challenge old ones to dive deeper in their faith and encourage them to take up roles of disciplers.
One of the biggest things that I have noticed that students are lacking these days, beyond knowing the Gospel, is the lack of consistency and order in their lives. I am determined to make each of the things commonplace and practice within the Denver Cru Movement and I pray that because of this, more will come to honor God and make Jesus Christ the only king of their life!
Would you also be praying with me that many would come to know the Lord and that his hand would be over the many different facets of ministry that we are starting these next weeks?
Thank you for reading and God bless.
